Blog Action Day: AMPLIFICATION

Since i signed up to participate in Blog Action Day 08, i have, in the back of my mind, been wondering what i'd say.

it finally struck me as i sped home on my bike this evening from work.

it's about Amplification.

because i work for Oxfam - i manage the www.oxfam.org website - i spend much of my day collecting, reading, writing, editing and posting stories about poverty. so in knew i wasn't going to write a story.

i thought 'why did i sign up to blog about poverty?' it was to add my voice to the more than 11,600 bloggers writing about this terrible global but very personal, individual scourge.

in the words of Ethan Zuckerman, one of the co-founders of very popular Global Voices, i am seeking to amplify the global conversation online.

read some of the mind-blowing facts about poverty at the life.boheme blog.

and there is something quite empowering in what Daniel Rothman says, about changing our thinking:
Conceptually, we must stop thinking of this as a fight against poverty, and start thinking of this as a crusade to promote wealth and abundance. The latter will
naturally lead to the eradication of the former.

because i don't think anyone ever reads my blog, please leave a comment if you can :)

-- Well somebody does now! And I'm reading it to our little Lo (Willow) as a bed time story now!
